Tervajärvi house museum

Tervajärvi house museum (addr. Tervajärventie 16) is located in Sumsa, approximately 25 kilometres north-east from the centre of Sotkamo. The house museum includes an old residential building, two granaries and a loft. The museum is furnished in a way that resembles the house in the beginning of 1950’s. The property has been in the ownership of the same family of Heikkinen already since 1600’s, and the house museum was opened in 1984.

Sotkamo granary museum

Telling about the history of Sotkamo all the way from prehistoric times to the present day, the Sotkamo granary museum (addr. Sopalantie 1) is located in a former crown granary near the town centre. The parish granary located next to the crown granary is being used as a storehouse for the museum, and it is the only granary building preserved in its original form in Kainuu. There are approximately 800 items in the Sotkamo granary museum, and it was opened in 1951. The administrator of the granary museum is the local heritage society Sotkamo-Seura ry.
